Mr. Ayoola Lawal, former Secretary of the APC Diaspora Chairmen, has described the late President Muhammadu Buhari as a figure of national discipline and moral leadership.

Lawal, who also served as a former APC chairman in the Scandinavian region, referred to Buhari as a man of principle and ethical clarity, whose enduring legacy will withstand the passage of time.

He shared these thoughts in a message of condolence addressed to the people of Nigeria and the bereaved family, as preparations are made to lay the former president to rest today (Tuesday) in his native town of Daura, Katsina State.

Expressing his profound grief over the loss, Lawal remarked that Buhari’s role extended far beyond leadership.

“Buhari was an anchor in turbulent times and a moral compass for many of us in the diaspora, who saw in him, a genuine desire to rebuild a broken nation,” Lawal stated.

He further noted that Buhari’s contributions to the APC and the wider Nigerian society were defined by bravery, personal sacrifice, and a steadfast devotion to national progress.

Reflecting on his role as secretary of the APC committee for diaspora chairmen during Buhari’s presidency, Lawal recalled the former president’s impact in encouraging Nigerians abroad to reconnect with their homeland.

“Buhari believed in Nigeria’s potential, and actively contributed to its political and socio-economic development.

In an Ode titled, “Tributes from the Heart” Lawal stated:

“To the soldier who became a democrat , your strength was in your patience, and your power was in your restraint.

“To the incorruptible leader, you made modesty honourable and integrity fashionable.

“To the father of modern Nigeria’s anti-corruption war -your war was unpopular but your conscience was clear.

“To the quiet visionary, the rails, roads, and refineries you planted will serve generations yet unborn.

“Buhari stood tall among African leaders. He didn’t just seek applause, he sought to restore values.

“His legacy is not only cast in bricks and mortar but in the conscience of a nation that began to believe in honesty again.”

Though he acknowledged that no leader is without shortcomings, Lawal emphasized that Buhari’s influence in promoting peace, enhancing infrastructure, and preserving national values would remain a beacon for the country’s future leaders.
