By-election primaries: APGA releases timetable

In accordance with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) schedule, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has released its official schedule of events for the 2025 National and State Assembly bye-election primary.

According to a letter sent by the National Secretariat in Abuja and signed by Ifeanyi Mbaeri, the party’s National Organizing Secretary, the by-elections will take place on August 16, 2025, in two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state constituencies.

The announcement states that the sale and filing of Expressions of Interest and Nomination Forms will begin on July 3 and run through July 9, 2025. On July 12, candidates will be screened, and on July 13, appeal hearings will take place.

The party announced that on July 15, ward congresses will be held in each of the election wards to choose ad hoc delegates.

Along with the determination of any complaints or appeals resulting from the primaries, it further stated that the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assemblies will hold their primary elections on July 21.

The Senate would cost N10 million, the House of Representatives N6 million, and the State House of Assembly N2.5 million, according to additional information provided by APGA.

The party did, however, declare compromises for some groups.

“Female aspirants and aspirants living with disabilities shall pay only 50% of the amounts stipulated above for both the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms,” the notice stated.

It added that forms can only be collected at the APGA National Secretariat and must be paid for using a manager’s check or non-refundable bank draft made payable to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Candidates were required by the party to return filled-out applications, academic credentials, party membership cards, and evidence of payment.

The party reiterated its discretion in the selection process and stated: “The Party reserves the right and unfettered discretion to issue Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to credible and eligible aspirants at any time before the scheduled primary election.”
