Umahi’s Niger Bridge directive sparks fresh political reaction

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain in Anambra State, Ndubuisi Nwobu, has criticised the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, over the decision to adorn the First Niger Bridge with photographs of President Bola Tinubu.

Nwobu, in a statement issued on Thursday, described the development as an example of sycophancy taken too far.

The ADC chieftain questioned the rationale behind publicly celebrating the President over the rehabilitation of government infrastructure, arguing that the funds used to execute the project came from public resources belonging to Nigerians.

Umahi had directed that photographs of President Tinubu be placed on the bridge after the completion of the rehabilitation works.

Reacting to the directive, Nwobu argued that displaying Tinubu’s photographs on the bridge would not translate into any electoral advantage for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He maintained that Nigerians would independently decide who to support during the election, stressing that the project was funded with resources from the commonwealth.

“The Minister of Works’ directive for the First Niger Bridge to be decorated with President Tinubu’s photographs is sycophancy taken too far.

“The money used in the maintenance of the bridge is not Tinubu’s personal money. The money belongs to the entire citizens of this country,” he said.
