Miriam Haley breaks silence after Weinstein’s latest sentence

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006.

Haley addressed the court before the sentence was handed down, describing the long-term impact of the assault and the years she spent seeking justice.

“Being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away,” Haley said.

She also spoke about the fear and scrutiny she continued to face after coming forward, stating, “It’s a life sentence for me.”

Weinstein, 74, continued to maintain his innocence while appealing to the court for leniency.

Although he expressed regret over the pain suffered by Haley, he insisted that he was not responsible for the offence.

“I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” Weinstein told the judge.

The latest sentence came after Weinstein was convicted during a retrial, following the overturning of his original 23-year New York sentence by the state’s highest court in 2024.

During the retrial, Weinstein was found guilty in connection with the assault involving Haley but was acquitted of a separate charge involving former model Kaja Sokola.

The jury was unable to reach a decision on a rape allegation involving Jessica Mann.

Weinstein is also serving a separate 16-year sentence in California following his conviction for rape.
