The Kano State Police Command has launched disciplinary proceedings against five officers seen in a viral video assisting a politician in coordinating a cash distribution to members of the public.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, clarified that the incident took place on July 10, 2025, following an event at the Coronation Hall within the Kano State Government House.

He emphasized that the occurrence was unrelated to the re-run and by-elections that took place in Kano on August 16.

“The investigation revealed that the officers were deployed for security at the event, during which they were regrettably seen engaging in unprofessional conduct,” the statement revealed.

Kiyawa stressed that the command does not tolerate improper behavior among its personnel.

“Appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken against the erring officers to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force,” he assured.

The spokesperson further reaffirmed the force’s commitment to upholding ethical conduct and discipline among its ranks.

“We want to assure the public that we will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and retain the trust and confidence of citizens,” he added.
