UNICEF Chief Field Officer, Sokoto, Mr. Michael Juma, stated that the objective is to provide target beneficiaries with access to quality healthcare and nutrition services, emphasising women, adolescent girls, and children. “We want universal health coverage all-pervading whereby no single child is left behind,” Juma said.

The Canadian Health Manager, Mr. Martin Dohlsten, disclosed that the intervention program would function for five years, focusing on maternal health and newborn care. “The financing is 15 million Canadian dollars, equivalent to $10.7 US dollars for the three states,” Dohlsten added

The Kebbi State Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Isma’il, thanked the Canadian Government for its monetary intervention, affirming the state’s commitment to making healthcare delivery accessible and affordable. “Governor Nasir Idris has placed a premium on the improvement of the health sector, in addition to the sizeable budgetary allocation to health services,” Isma’il said.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Shehu KoKo, highlighted the state’s priority on primary health and human resource development. “The incumbent administration of Nasir Idris has revitalised several primary health centres, and before December this year, 191 more PHCs will also undergo rehabilitation,” KoKo assured.

The two-day training workshop for health practitioners and journalists aims to improve the implementation capacity of health workers in Kebbi State.
