A Chorley-based charity, International Aid Trust, has dispatched more than 850 tonnes of donated humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
The charity has sent over 30 emergency vehicles, including ambulances and lorries loaded with essential supplies such as clothing, food, medical equipment, and generators.
Recently, six fully equipped ambulances and a pickup truck departed from the charity’s warehouse in Tarleton, driven by a team of volunteers in convoy to Poland. From there, the vehicles will be handed over to the charity’s team in Krakow and subsequently transported to agreed locations in Ukraine.
According to Julie Rowlandson, Community Ambassador for the trust, the vehicles are designed to navigate challenging terrain, enabling the injured to receive timely hospital treatment.
“We know one of the pick-up trucks we sent saved over 50 lives in its first week of service just by getting people to where they could be treated quickly,” she said.
“Everybody’s worked really hard in making sure everything’s prepared well; it’s been a really big team effort.”
The successful dispatch of the vehicles is attributed to the collective efforts of the charity’s team, who worked tirelessly to ensure everything was well-prepared.
The vehicles will be used to support refugees and those injured in the war, providing vital assistance to those in need.
