In Anambra State, a Chinese national was detained on suspicion of engaging in illicit mining operations.
During a surveillance operation in the Aguleri axis on Friday, members of the OCHA Brigade’s Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra team captured the suspect, Mr. Mu Hua Qiang, 45, a resident of Aguleri.
The suspect was turned over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for additional investigation, according to Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, who confirmed the event.
“The Anambra State Police Command, through its operatives attached to the SCID, Awka, on the evening of 22nd August 2025, received a suspected illegal Chinese miner from operatives of the OCHA Brigade.
“His statement has been voluntarily obtained, and he has been placed in lawful custody for further investigation,” Ikenga said.
He promised to keep everyone updated on any further developments in the case.
In Anambra State, illegal mining has continued to be a major concern, and officials are working harder to shut down uncontrolled operations that endanger the environment and public safety.
