The National Cholera Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was launched by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in response to the cholera outbreak, which resulted in 53 fatalities across 31 states.

The NCDC has activated the National Cholera Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), according to an update on its official X platform on Monday. This comes after a dynamic risk assessment of the #cholera epidemiological situation that put the nation at a very high risk of increased cholera transmission.

The report said, “As of June 24, 2024, a total of 1,528 suspected cases and 53 deaths have been recorded across 31 states.

“Following a dynamic risk assessment of the cholera epidemiological situation that placed the country at a very high risk of increased cholera transmission, the NCDC took this step to coordinate the response to the outbreak, saying that as of June 24, 2024, a total of 1,528 suspected cases have been reported.”

The state government has provided cholera test kits and treatment materials to all local government areas and designated treatment centres, and treatment is free in all government facilities. It further explained that one person has died and that 25 cases out of 35 suspected cases have been confirmed in Ogun.

It further stated that to limit the outbreak and stop its spread, the NCDC is collaborating closely with the states.
