According to Bayo Onanuga, a media assistant for President Bola Tinubu, the lives of Muslims in Nigeria are equally important.

In response to a post on X by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the purported genocide against Christians in Nigeria, Onanuga made the statement on Saturday.

The “ongoing slaughter of thousands of Christians in Nigeria by radical Islamists and Fulani ethnic militias is both tragic and unacceptable.” Rubio said in response to the administration of President Donald Trump’s decision to declare Nigeria a Country of Particular Concerns.

“As @POTUS said, the United States stands ready, willing, and able to act”.

“Secretary Rubio, Muslim lives matter too,” Onanuga, who has repeatedly refuted the allegation of Christian persecution in Nigeria, stated in the comment area.

The assertion is a “gross exaggeration of the Nigerian situation,” Onanuga added, adding that there “is no ongoing slaughter of thousands of Christians in Nigeria.”

According to him, “What we do have are sporadic attacks on some villages by bandits and terrorists and the attacks are religiously insensitive. Christians, Muslims, churches and mosques are attacked randomly.

“What our country requires from America is military support to fight these violent extremists in some states of our country, not designation as a nation of particular concern”.
