The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is set to donate a 160-seater multimedia lecture theatre to Babcock University in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State. This donation is part of the CIBN’s efforts to enhance professionalism, capacity building, and excellence in the banking industry.

According to Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, President of CIBN, the institute will continue to prioritize initiatives that promote banking and finance education in Nigeria. He noted that recent research by the CIBN revealed that between 70 and 75 percent of new applicants for banking jobs in the country are from private universities.

Olanrewaju emphasized that this finding highlights the need to support private universities, which have been instrumental in contributing to the development of the banking industry. He praised Babcock University for being the first private university to adopt the CIBN’s linkage program, which has enabled students to become Chartered Bankers and secure excellent careers.

The donated lecture theatre, named “CIBN Bankers’ Hall,” will serve as a hub for learning, innovation, and excellence for both students and faculty. Olanrewaju stated, “This enduring legacy project signifies our commitment to enhancing banking and finance education in Nigeria and reflects our steadfast backing for the overall economic progress of our nation.”

Prof. Ademola Tayo, Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, expressed gratitude for the CIBN’s commitment to the project, highlighting its dedication to advancing the banking profession and promoting financial literacy. He noted that the university has maintained a strong bond with the CIBN, having produced two past presidents and the current incumbent.

The CIBN’s donation is expected to enhance the university’s infrastructure and provide a hub for research, learning, and collaboration. As Olanrewaju noted, “We are also doing this to further support the private universities in the country.”

This project demonstrates the power of partnerships and collective efforts in promoting education and economic progress.

This Legacy Project Banking Hall will not only enhance our university’s infrastructure but also provide a hub for research, learning, and collaboration. It will serve as a testament to the power of partnerships and the impact of collective efforts. This project demonstrates our university’s commitment to providing our students with a world-class education, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to excel in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.” He added.
