The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested Zaliha Shuaibu, a housewife, for reportedly killing her co-wife’s three-month-old child in Malari village, which is in the state’s Soba Local Government Area, by giving him acid.

On May 13, 2025, the unsettling incident took place inside the family property that the suspect, her husband, and the baby’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim, shared.

The officer acknowledged the occurrence in a statement, stating that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Soba quickly investigated the matter and apprehended the perpetrator.

According to the statement, the problem started when Maryam left her infant alone in the room to use the restroom. It was important to note that when she returned, she discovered the baby in Zaliha, her co-Wife’s arms.

The state police public relations officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the occurrence in a statement, stating that the suspect was taken into custody after a prompt inquiry by the divisional police officer in charge of the Soba Division.

According to the statement, the problem started when Maryam left her infant alone in the room to use the restroom. It was important to note that when she returned, she discovered the baby in Zaliha, her co-wife,’s arms.

According to Hassan, Zaliha returned the infant to Maryam, who saw right away that the infant was distressed, with foam oozing from his mouth and a noticeable wound on his neck.

According to him, “the child was rushed to a nearby hospital in the village but was pronounced dead on arrival.”

Zaliha Shuaibu, the suspect, was arrested by the DPO of Soba Division after the incident, according to the statement. She confessed to feeding the baby acid with the assistance of her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who is currently at large, during questioning.

Hassan claims that Zaliha admitted that Lawal supplied the acid needed to perform the horrible deed.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in the inquiry and that all those related to the crime will be brought to account.

He promised that the escaping suspect will be found and subjected to the full force of the law.
