Confusion Deepens In PDP After Wike’s Strong Statement On Party’s Presidential Ticket

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared that Sandy Onor remains the only presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Wike made the assertion while maintaining that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, recognizes only Wadata Plaza as the official secretariat of the party.

Over the weekend, two different PDP factions produced separate presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While the faction loyal to Wike presented Onor as its candidate, the group aligned with Tanimu Turaki endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan in absentia.

Jonathan, however, has yet to react publicly to the development.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike said: “Do you pick someone who has not told you he wants to run for an election?

“There is no faction in the PDP, the only presidential candidate of the PDP is Sandy Onor.

“INEC must know the secretariat of all political parties. The INEC-recognized PDP secretariat is Wadata Plaza and not anyone’s private office or bedroom.”
