Heavy security deployment was witnessed across parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday as civil society organizations, CSOs, staged a protest over the recent abduction of students and teachers in the state.

ZINGTIE reports that 39 students and seven teachers were kidnapped on Friday, 15th May 2026, in some communities within Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The CSOs stormed the streets of Ibadan to protest the continued captivity of the pupils and teachers.

ZINGTIE observed the presence of personnel from security agencies including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and others stationed at strategic points across Ibadan on Monday.

The security operatives were sighted around the entrance of the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Agodi, Idi Ape and Iwo Road, as well as Sango, Dugbe, Total Garden and Mokola Roundabout.

Our correspondent gathered that the heavy security presence was connected to the protest organised by the CSOs over the abduction.

Our correspondent, who visited Mokola Roundabout around 8:30 a.m., observed that members of the Take-It-Back Movement spearheaded the demonstration.

The protesters urged the government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward securing the release of the victims.

They also displayed placards bearing different inscriptions to express their grievances.

Some of the placards read, “Security for all, not for a few,” “Government must end kidnapping in Oyo State,” “We demand safer roads and communities,” “Protect farmers, traders and students,” and “Peace, security and justice.”

One of the protesters, identified simply as Kunle, said Nigerians are becoming increasingly frustrated over the persistent insecurity across the country.

He said, “Let them know that the people of Nigeria are not at peace. Let them know that the people of Oyo State are not smiling. Let them know that the Nigerian people are fed up with insecurity.”
