Japanese PM makes surprising confession after staff removed Cockroaches from her apartment

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has revealed that she experienced an unexpected feeling of loneliness after staff members removed cockroaches from her official residence in Tokyo.

Takaichi disclosed the unusual experience in a post on X on August 22 while responding to questions about whether she had ever encountered ghosts reportedly associated with the prime minister’s official residence.

The 65-year-old prime minister said she had never seen any ghosts, but revealed that she had encountered cockroaches despite her efforts to maintain a clean environment.

According to Takaichi, one cockroach suddenly ran across her feet while she was at the residence.

She explained that she regularly cleaned the floor beneath her dining table, kept food waste in a covered bin and washed and separated plastic containers.

Takaichi also said she was unable to kill the cockroaches because of the influence of Phoenix, a work by Japanese manga artist Osamu Tezuka that explores the idea of reincarnation.

Her secretaries, however, became concerned after she informed them about the presence of the insects.

One of them reportedly told her, “It’s unclean. I’ll handle it,” before arranging for pest control services to deal with the problem.

Following the intervention, the cockroaches reportedly stopped appearing at the official residence.

While Takaichi said she was relieved that the infestation had been dealt with, she also acknowledged experiencing an unexpected sense of sadness and loneliness afterward.

“I felt relieved, but also a little lonely, or maybe sad,” she said.
