An aide to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has apologised to Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his earlier remarks against the singer.

Chukwu had criticised Davido after the musician reacted to comments made by Governor Okpebholo concerning Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during the state’s governorship election.

Davido had subsequently said the governor’s children should be ashamed of their father over the remarks.

However, in a viral video, Chukwu clarified that his response to Davido was made in his personal capacity and did not represent the position of the Edo State Government.

He stressed that he neither acted on the governor’s directive nor obtained his approval before making the comments.

According to Chukwu, he responded because he was personally offended by Davido’s remarks concerning the governor’s children.

He also expressed regret over the controversy and apologised to Okpebholo for any embarrassment his earlier comments may have caused.

The governor’s aide extended the apology to the people of Edo State, noting that his remarks were his personal views and should not be interpreted as representing the people of the state.

He said: “I want to apologise to every good-meaning Edoite. And to my brother Davido, I love you. Please disregard my earlier comment.”

Chukwu further assured the singer that he remained welcome in Edo State despite the earlier controversy.

He said, “Edo love you and of course you are welcome home anytime, any day in Edo State.”

The governor’s aide described Edo residents as welcoming and accommodating, while apologising to those who found his earlier remarks offensive or inappropriate.

He also portrayed Governor Okpebholo as a peace-loving leader who does not support violence or disrespect.

Chukwu praised the governor’s administration for its efforts in areas including road construction, infrastructure, education and security.

He added that Edo remained safe for investors and expressed support for efforts to revive nightlife in the state.

The aide once again emphasised that Governor Okpebholo had not directed him to make the controversial remarks against Davido.

He maintained that he had acted based on his personal opinion and formally withdrew his earlier statement while apologising to the governor, Edo residents and the singer.
