U-20 WWC: Ahead of Poland tournament, Falconets suffer major setback over visa issue

Nigeria’s Falconets have been forced to make two changes to their squad for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after captain Joe Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab failed to secure visas for entry into Poland.

Igbokwe has been replaced by Vivian Kachi, while Alaba Olabiyi takes the place of Abdulwahab in the team’s final squad for the tournament.

The Falconets arrived in Trzebnica, Poland, on Tuesday as head coach Moses Aduku continues to fine-tune his squad ahead of the competition.

Nigeria will play hosts Poland in a preparatory friendly at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg on Friday.

Aduku’s team will then conclude their pre-tournament preparations with another friendly against Korea Republic at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium next Tuesday.

The Falconets have been placed in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.

Nigeria will open their campaign against Spain on Monday, September 7, before taking on their remaining group opponents in subsequent fixtures.

The team will now look to complete their preparations and adapt to the late changes as they begin their quest for success at the tournament.
