Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has criticized the Senate’s decision to declare former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, wanted.
ZINGTIE recalls that the Senate had on several occasions invited Kyari in connection with allegations surrounding a N210 trillion fraud said to have occurred between 2017 and 2023.
However, after repeated invitations allegedly went unanswered, the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday directed that the former NNPCL boss be declared wanted and arrested.
Responding to the development, Sani, in a post shared on his verified Facebook page, argued that the action taken against Kyari was unfair.
According to the former senator, Kyari has a history of honoring invitations from the National Assembly and presenting explanations whenever required.
He wrote, “Declaring Mele Kyari “wanted” by the Senate without following the due process of consideration to the excuse of his absence is wrong.
