The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Judicial Division, has approved interim bail for former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in a matter involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The decision was given on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, by Justice Bello Kawu while ruling on Motion No. M/17220/2025.
The court order stated that Malami was granted bail under the same conditions earlier imposed by the EFCC, which include handing over his international passport and securing bail bonds through two sureties.
The approved sureties are the Director-General of the Nigerian Legal Aid Council and a current member of the House of Representatives representing the Augie/Argungu Federal Constituency.
Justice Kawu further affirmed and reinstated earlier bail conditions fulfilled on November 28, 2025, which also required the submission of two sureties and the surrender of Malami’s international passport.
The court explained that the interim bail was granted due to exceptional hardship, pending the hearing and resolution of the substantive motion on notice.
The matter has been scheduled for January 5, 2026, when the court will hear the motion on notice.
