The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in the state, Chukwuemeka Aaron, was sacked by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Chukwuemeka is a supporter of Nyesom Wike, the state’s former governor and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his decision, Justice Stephen Jumbo declared the state’s July 2024 PDP ward, local government, and state congresses to be invalid.
The development comes only one month after the state’s opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, ward, local government, and state congresses were declared invalid by another High Court.
The decision removed Chief Tony Okocha, another Wike supporter, from his position as APC chairman for Rivers State.
According to ZINGTIE, a disagreement on the validity of the PDP congresses led to the court’s decision to sack the party’s chairman.
Members of the party who supported Wike conducted the congresses.
The PDP was prevented from proceeding with the ward, local government, and state congresses on July 20, 2024, by a State High Court presided over by Justice Charles Wali.
