Following their interview with TVC News, in which they disclosed how they paid a ransom to bandits in exchange for their freedom, some Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) officers have come under intense public criticism.
Seven bags of confiscated rice were given to the bandits as ransom, according to A. A. Mohammed, one of the officers.
Before the event, he stated, he had taken 37 bags of rice from smugglers, and the bandits wanted seven bags to release them.
The officer continued by detailing the daily risks he takes to serve Nigeria.
A few days prior, two worshipers were killed when bandits broke into a mosque in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Sani Usman, a community leader, told Channels Television that at around 2:00 pm on Friday, the bandits broke inside the Anguwar Makera mosque in the Kwasakwasa community of the local government and started shooting at the attendees.
According to him, the bandits shot and killed two persons during their raid.
The remainder of the crowd was forced to evacuate the mosque after the Muslim worshippers were attacked while they were performing the second round of Salat prayers.
