The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided clarification regarding the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) set to begin on July 8 in Anambra State, stating that the exercise is exclusively for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8.
Elizabeth Agwu, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, shared this information during a press briefing held on Thursday in Awka.
She emphasized that the voter registration exercise would not apply to the Senate and House of Assembly bye-elections. According to her, the CVR process for the governorship poll will kick off on July 8 and wrap up on July 17.
Agwu further explained that the registration activities will take place each day between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., including on Saturdays, but excluding Mondays. She encouraged eligible individuals in Anambra to show up in large numbers to either complete a new registration or make necessary updates to their personal details.
“Fresh registration must be done physically at designated INEC offices, while data revalidation or corrections can be done online. INEC will not register any person in absentia.
“Also, registrations outside the approved time will not be accepted, as the registration portal will automatically close at 3:00 p.m. each day,” she said.
Agwu also cautioned that no one should pay for voter registration, stressing that such actions are against the law. She urged citizens to take the process seriously and actively engage in registering and voting in the forthcoming governorship election, highlighting its importance in shaping leadership in the state.
