A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has urged the opposition parties to cease attributing their members’ defect to the ruling party to President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo, the state capital, on Sunday, Oyintiloye, a former politician, made the request.

He said members of the opposing parties should concentrate on resolving the internal crisis rather than pointing the finger at the president.

While acknowledging that political realignment is nothing new in Nigeria, the APC chieftain said that the recent wave of defections was caused by ideological persuasion rather than compulsion, as some have suggested.

Oyintiloye went on to say that unresolved internal disputes over the years were causing a large number of people to desert from the opposition parties.

“The defectors claimed that they were been side-lined, undermined, unfairly treated by their former parties, leaving them with no option but to switch to a party with a sustainable transformation agenda.

“This season of political recalibration that is leading to growing number of Nigerian politicians defecting en masse to APC is an indication that the party is well structured to transform the country through the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the President,” he stated.

Oyintiloye, who foresaw further opposition party defections, particularly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), counseled them against blaming the president for their inability to manage their own affairs cohesively.

The former lawmaker added that it was incorrect to assume that a one-party system would result from the tide of opposition party members defecting to the APC.
