Opeyemi Bamidele, the leader of the 10th Senate, stated that the wave of defections affecting opposition parties is a sign that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will establish the long-desired government of national unity.
According to Opeyemi, the APC is currently leading a government of national unity, which explains why three senators from Kebbi defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party.
Bamidele, who presently serves as the upper house representative for Ekiti Central, cleared President Bola Tinubu of responsibility for the defections that have rocked opposition political organizations. He pointed out that, in contrast to popular belief, Tinubu did not force any opposition party members to switch to the APC.
When all federal lawmakers from Kebbi State formally announced their defection to the APC on Tuesday, he provided this clarification in the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Earlier Tuesday, ZINGTIE reported that Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, and members of the National Executive Council observed three senators from Kebbi defecting from the Senate.
At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Kebbi Senators Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki, along with every member of the House of Representatives, told President Tinubu over the weekend that they had decided to join the ruling party.
