Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has issued a legal threat against well-known Nigerian human rights advocate, Deji Adeyanju, over what his legal team describes as defamatory content shared online.

Obi’s lawyers, operating under EJESIMEN & CO MADIBA CHAMBERS, SAN, accused Adeyanju of repeatedly making damaging and slanderous comments about the former governor on X and other social media platforms.

The legal notice specifically referenced a post dated August 21, in which Adeyanju alleged that Obi diverted public funds from Anambra State to invest in his family’s business ventures.

In the same post, Adeyanju also claimed he had a personal meeting with the former Labour Party presidential candidate, during which Obi allegedly attempted to “give me money and called it thank you for coming, it’s 100% true”.

Obi’s legal representatives are demanding a full retraction of the statements and a public apology from Adeyanju.

In response, the lawyer posted a message on his verified Facebook account on Wednesday night, stating his readiness to battle the case in court.

He wrote, “I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah”.

Adeyanju, a vocal critic of Obi, has long maintained that the former governor is unlikely to become Nigeria’s president. His frequent criticisms have led to multiple heated exchanges with Obi’s supporters, popularly known as Obidients, across various social media platforms.

In a recent Facebook post, Adeyanju reiterated his belief that Obi’s chances of ever being elected president are no longer viable.
