The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised politicians who they say are deliberately misrepresenting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent statements on peace and unity in the state.

According to the party, certain political actors desperate for attention have taken the governor’s remarks out of context in an attempt to discredit him and paint a false narrative.

Earlier in the week, Governor Oborevwori addressed key stakeholders and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring harmony across the state. He stated: “You cannot fight under my watch. I will not allow it, not in my two tenures while I will be governor. Maybe after me, but while I am governor, peace will reign in Delta State.”

He added: “Every Deltan, regardless of their tribe and religion, voted for me. I am not going to take sides. My concern is for the general peace in Delta State so that I can continue to do MORE for all Deltans.”

In a weekend statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC defended the governor, stating that his words clearly expressed a commitment to peaceful and inclusive governance. The party, however, accused some political opponents of twisting the message for personal and partisan advantage.

“The governor’s position is clear,” APC stressed. “He belongs to all Deltans, irrespective of tribe, religion, or political leaning. His sole concern is to safeguard peace so that development can thrive. Twisting this for political gain is a sign of fear by those intimidated by his achievements.”

The APC urged the public to disregard what it called “false narratives” being spread by opposition voices and reaffirmed that Governor Oborevwori is focused on delivering a legacy built on peace, stability, and lasting development.

The party further linked the governor’s commitment to his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, which prioritizes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

Onojeghuo also noted that Delta State is currently experiencing improved security and social stability compared to previous years, attributing the progress to the administration’s consistent promotion of equity, justice, and inclusion.

“Through the M.O.R.E. Agenda, the governor has strengthened security, expanded infrastructure, and opened up opportunities for economic growth. His fairness in governance is the bedrock of the peace we are seeing today. Propaganda cannot erase this,” Onojeghuo said.
