Nollywood star and producer Omoni Oboli has opened up about the foundation of her 24-year marriage to her husband, Nnamdi Oboli.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Omoni revealed that one major factor in their enduring relationship was a mutual decision made even before their wedding — ruling out the possibility of divorce.
“Staying married for over two decades. First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option even before we got married,” Omoni revealed.
According to her, this firm commitment allowed them to work through the ups and downs of married life, including a particularly difficult first year.
The actress, who is a mother of three, also spoke about the vital role forgiveness plays in keeping a relationship strong. She noted that having a forgiving heart has helped them resolve disagreements and grow closer over the years.
She said, “There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners.”
Omoni also shared that their relationship had an unusual beginning Nnamdi proposed just two weeks after they met, and the couple tied the knot only four months later.
Though she confessed to feeling uncertain due to her young age at the time, she said she was drawn to the sincerity and depth of Nnamdi’s love for her.
Nnamdi Oboli also offered advice to younger couples, encouraging them to embrace responsibility and accountability in their marriages.
“Marriage is a responsibility. You don’t go into a marriage expecting it to happen to you. You are the relationship. It’s between two people; you have to make it work,” she advised.
