French President Emmanuel Macron, who was recently involved in scandal after a video purportedly showing his wife smacking him went viral, can get some marriage advice from US President Donald Trump.
As they arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam, the video shows French President Emmanuel Macron being “slapped”—or rather, pushed—in the face by his wife, Brigitte Macron.
The video has attracted tremendous media attention. As they step off their plane, it depicts Brigitte reaching out her arms to Macron’s face. The Élysée Palace initially wrote the event off as a playful moment between the newlyweds.
Later, in response to the media hysteria, President Macron called the exchange “harmless play fighting between spouses.”
In response to the viral video, US President Donald Trump offered a hilarious interpretation. During the send-off press conference for Elon Musk, a Fox News correspondent asked Trump whether he had any “world leader-to-world leader marital advice” for Macron.
“Make sure the door remains closed,” said Trump, who has three marriages under his belt and plenty of marital experience.
“That was not good,” Trump remarked as the Oval Office erupted in laughter.
Then, following the plane incident, Trump disclosed that he had spoken with Macron.
“I spoke to him,” he said, adding, “He’s fine. They’re fine”.
“They’re two really good people. I know him very well, and I don’t know what that was all about,” added Trump as he chose his words carefully.
“But I know him very well, and they’re fine,” he added.
