In response to the recent Court of Appeal, Akure Division verdict regarding the local government election held in the state on October 22, 2022, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has urged President Bola Tinubu to step in and stop those attempting to stir problems.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye made the plea, claiming that the court’s decision from Friday had begun to cause anxiety throughout the state.

While the Court of Appeal wisely rejected the APC’s attempt to relist its appeal against the 2022 Federal High Court ruling that declared local government elections invalid, the APC chieftain stated that the court did not invalidate the February 10 ruling that restored the party’s chairmen and council members.

Former lawmaker Oyintiloye warned that if the state government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) do not promptly correct their misinterpretation of the verdict, it might lead to a crisis in each of the state’s 30 local government districts.

According to him, there will be a problem as a result of the state administration’s decision that they now rule the local government regions and the planned invasion of the secretariats on Monday.

The elected APC chairmen and council members would oppose any illegal invasion of the secretariats, which they now occupy, according to the APC chieftain, making the crisis evident.

According to Oyintiloye, Tinubu must step in and ask the state to deploy additional security forces in order to prevent the situation.

He stated that the inhabitants were still affected by the deaths that occurred during a similar crisis on February 17 and that it should not be let to occur again.

“We don’t want any bloodshed in the state again, and that is why I am calling on the President to intervene swiftly to avoid loss of lives.

“The open declaration by PDP members to invade the council secretariats in the state on Monday can lead to mayhem, and that is not what we need at the moment.

“Both the state government and the PDP must be cautioned against causing crisis in the state due to wrong interpretation of the court ruling.

“The verdict of the court on the attempt by the APC to relist the case is very clear, but some people are just hell-bent on causing chaos through misinterpretation of the court ruling.

“We appeal to Mr. President to intervene and protect the lives and property of residents in Osun.

“Osun government is already before the Supreme Court to challenge its inability to access local government allocation.

“It is therefore expected of the government to wait for the apex court to take final decision on it,” he said.
