Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, have been cautioned by Fouad Oni, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to disturb the peace in the state.

Oni cautioned that those who stand up for democracy are prepared to risk their lives.

He was responding to the takeover of the Lagos State House of Assembly by police and Department of State Services (DSS) agents.

In an effort to block access to the Speaker’s office, Mojisola Meranda’s, the Deputy Speaker’s office, and the Clerk of the House’s office, DSS agents reportedly occupied the facility.

The Speaker of the House, Mojisola Meranda, is said to have arrived with her escort at approximately 12 p.m.

The lawmakers, however, conveyed faith in Meranda’s ability to lead.

Remember how Meranda became Speaker on January 13, 2025, following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa?

Obasa was impeached while he was in the United States, US.

Upon his return, Obasa dismissed his impeachment, stressing that the lawmakers never followed due process.

However, a letter signed by the Clerk of the Assembly requesting DSS operatives had emerged after the invasion.

The letter, dated February 14, indicated that DSS officers were ordered to tighten security around the premises ahead of February 18.

The letter referenced reports that Obasa wanted to resume as Speaker.

During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Oni stated: “Today is a sad day for me and all democracy-loving Nigerians… For those who may either be benefactors of Mudashiru Obasa or are supporting him to cause a breach of peace in Lagos, we will again put our lives on the line to defend democracy.

“I think we have had enough, enough of begging, enough of appeasement. If you see what happened today, you will begin to look at Rivers State, and unfortunately the mayhem that is also consuming Osun State. If you put all of these together, it will be like a child’s play.”
