The impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has spoken about the prospect of filing a lawsuit to overturn his dismissal.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival back in the state on Saturday, January 25, Obasa made the remark. He went on to say that due process was not followed in his impeachment.

On Monday, January 13, the House’s majority of members impeached Obasa on charges of financial embezzlement and improper behaviour. Nevertheless, Obasa refuted the House members’ accusation of financial mismanagement.

Obasa maintains his position as the assembly’s speaker and claims that the accusations against him are baseless. The troubled member made the assertion in response to enquiries from reporters about his status in the House.

The speaker who was impeached stated: “My status in the house? I strongly believe I am still the speaker until the right thing is done. If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way, and I will not contest it.

When asked if he would contest the lawmakers’ ruling in courthe responded, “You will know. It’s a matter of time. Thank you, and God bless you.”

Additionally, the lawmaker accused the state commissioner of police of conspiring to remove him. He said that more than 200 police officers had been sent to his private home in Agege and that they were preventing his family from leaving.

Since the position was not his father’s chieftaincy title, he claimed he was not frightened of being removed.
