Former Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and immediate past representative of the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwazunku announced his defection during the Echiaba Ward meeting, which took place at the residence of Hon. Amobi Nwofoke, the APC Ward Chairman in Ugwuachara.

He joined the APC alongside several prominent PDP members, including Hon. Emeka Otozi, the party’s 2023 Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi North, the Echiaba Ward Chairman, and other political associates.

Welcoming the new members on behalf of the State Chairman, Chief Patrick Orogbo, who leads the party in Ebonyi Local Government Area, commended their decision, describing it as both bold and strategic. He assured the defectors of equal participation and integration within the party, highlighting the APC’s commitment to fairness, openness, and inclusivity, regardless of political history.

In his address, Amobi praised the performance of Ebonyi State Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, noting that the governor’s achievements over the past two years have significantly weakened opposition forces and are unifying the state’s political landscape.

Shortly after his formal declaration, Chief Nwazunku stated that while he had remained in the PDP in name, he had mentally and emotionally detached from the party due to its growing disunity and loss of direction.

He said his decision to align with the APC was driven by the impressive governance of Governor Nwifuru at the state level and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nationally.

Nwazunku pledged to rally his supporters throughout Ebonyi to ensure a strong showing for the APC in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
