According to Nnadi, “We are determined to follow the guidelines of the Mining Act. Part of what we have done is the relocation of residents who were close to the mining sites.” He added, “My relationship with the host community has been very cordial because I have tried as much as I can to fulfil the agreement I entered into with them.”

Nnadi debunked claims that he was not paying adequate attention to the plights of an Amaopara family whose house was located near his mining site. He said, “I have done more than what the MoU I entered with the village stipulates. I have been taking care of them adequately, because that’s what I promised myself to do.

He explained that apart from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the community, he has another MoU with the family, which he is fulfilling. Nnadi stated, “I sometimes go out of my way to do other things for the landowners in this village, and these are not contained in the agreement I signed with the people here.”

Regarding the Amaopara family, Nnadi said, “I asked her to tell me what I would do for her to make her happy since she complains that what she is getting from the village as benefit is small. She said, I should empower one of her sons to start up a business.” He claimed to have given one of the sons N200,000 and promised more, while also supporting another son with funds to learn a trade.

Nnadi emphasised his commitment to fulfilling his obligations to the community, stating, “I don’t interfere with their local politics or whatsoever. I do those things out of my own volition and not because the constitution of the Amaopara community says so.
