Edo: 4 female prison inmates write 2024 NECO examination

Among the candidates who took the June/July 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) were four female detainees of the Nigerian Correctional Service’s Edo State Command.

According to ZINGTIE, the four prisoners were among the six who registered to take the National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) exam.

The Custodial Facility in Auchi, the administrative center of the Etsako West Local Government Area, is home to the prisoners, according to the Command.

A declaration from SC While the four prisoners took the examinations, two did not since they were lawfully released from custody prior to the start of the tests, according to Aminu Suleman, the Command’s public relations officer.

According to Suleman, the prisoners enrolled in adult literacy programs at the Female Custodial Facility as the first step in their educational journey.

He said that DCC Odoh Jane, the Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of the Facility, had congratulated the prisoners on reaching the significant milestone.

Jane extolled the virtues of the prisoners’ fortitude and commitment to becoming better citizens, expressing her immense pride in them.

She proposed that the Nigerian Correctional Service, led by CGCS Haliru Nababa, is well-positioned to guarantee the reformation and rehabilitation of prisoners via a variety of programs, including sports, skill development, and education.

She clarified that all of the prisoners will receive ongoing assistance from the Controller of Corrections, Edo State Command, Emehinola Philomena, in their efforts to successfully reform and undergo rehabilitation and reintegration into the society.

The Deputy Controller of Corrections advised the inmates, “When you regain freedom, make sure you further your studies, excel and contribute your quota toward a better society.”

Speaking on behalf of other prisoners, Miss Mercy thanked the Controller General of Corrections and other staff members for making their goal come true and pledged to be change agents.
