Charity Airobarueghian and Yekini Idaiye were appointed Minority Leader and Minority Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly, respectively, twenty-four hours after they were removed as Majority Leader and Chief Whip.
According to ZINGTIE, on Monday, March 7, 2025, the two were among those fired from their previous roles.
Alongside the two lawmakers, Natasha Osawaru Irobosa was also ousted; she was replaced as the Deputy Majority Leader.
Aiguobarueghian, Ovia North-East I, Irobosa, Akoko-Edo I, Egor, and Idaiye are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
As Majority Leader, Deputy Leader, and Chief Whip of the House, respectively, the three were succeeded by Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan, APC, Esan West, Addeh Emakhu Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I, and Lecky Hussein Mustapha, APC, Etsako West I.
At an extraordinary plenary session on Tuesday, Speaker of the House Blessing Agbebaku named the PDP’s key officers.
According to Agbebaku, the PDP’s state leadership nominated the two.
The Speaker read a letter from Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the Edo PDP’s caretaker committee, dated April 8, 2025.
“The following are nominated to fill the following positions after due consultation,” stated a portion of the letter marked “Nomination for Principal Officers.”
“They are Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian, Minority Leader and Hon Yekini Idaiye, the Minority Whip.”
