According to Paul Ohonbamu, the commissioner for information and communication in Edo State, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, poses no threat to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Ohonbamu claimed that Obi does not represent a significant threat to the ruling party during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Monday. He attributed this to Obi’s “lack of political structure and coherent strategy.”
“Peter Obi is the least of our worries. APC can’t be threatened because of Peter Obi. What is he going to do differently as Peter Obi? What will he even do when he becomes president? He will just tell you, ‘Let me get there first,’ with no clear blueprint of what he wants to do,” Ohonbamu said.
Additionally, he implied indecision and shallowness by comparing Obi’s political approach to that of a figure portrayed by a well-known Russian author.
Noting that the Labour Party had little sway in the South-East, he also questioned Obi’s political might in his own area.
“From where he is from, they only have a governor in Abia. APC has two governors in the region, and it is well represented. Imo and Ebonyi are APC states, Enugu remains PDP, and Anambra is controlled by APGA. So where is Peter Obi’s dominance?” he added.
Ohonbamu claims that Obi’s political movement is “struggling in error” and does not have the strength to seriously challenge the APC’s national standing.
