Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Kasimu Otono as the new Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, following the suspension of the former officeholder, Felix Isere.
The announcement was made public on Friday via a statement released by Umar Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government.
As outlined in the statement, Otono’s new role is effective immediately, replacing Felix Isere, who was earlier suspended during the week for allegedly engaging in unauthorized fundraising on behalf of the state. The issue reportedly centers around the upcoming Oil and Gas Summit, scheduled for August 7 in Benin City.
The statement read in part: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Barrister Kasimu Otono as Special Adviser (Oil and Gas) to the Governor.”
Otono, a trained lawyer and seasoned businessman, is well-regarded for his impact in the legal field, property development, charitable initiatives, and community engagement. He holds memberships in both the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He also serves as a Senior Partner at Kay and Kay Legal, a firm known for its specialization in oil and gas, commercial, and real estate law.
Governor Okpebholo had earlier directed Felix Isere to refund all monies obtained from individuals and entities under the guise of the planned summit and warned the public to avoid any further dealings with him.
