Edo governorship primary: Shaibu reveals next move

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for the next state election, Asue Ighodalo, has drawn the wrath of the impeached deputy governor of Edo, Mr Philip Shaibu, who declared on Tuesday that he would take the matter to the highest court.

ZINGTIE recollects that on Monday, a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a lawsuit brought by the impeached Deputy Governor, which attempted to void the governorship primary held on February 22 and resulted in Ighodalo being the PDP nominee.

In his ruling, Justice James Omotosho determined that Shaibu was not entitled to contest the primary’s result because he did not fully engage in the process.

Additionally, according to Omotosho, the impeached deputy governor was not equally present at the venue of the primary the day it was held.

But Shaibu claimed he will keep opposing Ighadalo’s rise because he lost the primary in an interview with reporters in Abuja on Tuesday.

“I won the election with the authentic delegates. I am sure and confident that the court will do the right thing.

“Concerning what happened on Monday (Abuja High Court ruling), my lawyers are looking into it, and by the grace of God, I can bet you, because I believe in the judiciary, that justice will be served.”

“I believe that the judiciary is not what they say it is. I believe that we have a judiciary that will deliver justice in the issue between Ighodalo and me and the issue of my impeachment,” he said.
