Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate for 2023, has pledged that voters will make it tough for those attempting to rig the election ahead of Saturday’s Edo State gubernatorial election.
Obi delivered a speech on Wednesday in Benin during Olumide Akpata’s farewell rally. Akpata is the Liberal Party’s candidate for governor of Edo.
The former governor of Anambra State declared that anyone attempting to rig the election on September 21 would be rigged, declaring that the era of election fraud in Nigeria is finished.
“Election rigging is coming to an end in this country. This time around, anyone who rigs election, we will rig him.
“Nigerians are suffering every day with hardship and we cannot continue. That is what the Labour Party wants to change,” he said.
In addition, Obi charged security services, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and INEC with making sure that Saturday’s poll is credible, fair, and free.
He promised that Olumide Akpata will not follow in the footsteps of state governors who frequently abdicate their duties to the federal government at the expense of their constituents.
He urged the state’s citizens to cast their ballots for Akpata and Yusuf Kadiri, his running companion, on September 21 in big numbers.
The running mate of Obi in the 2023 presidential election, Prof. Datti Baba-Ahmed, advised LP members to use their mass to support their candidate.
