The election petitions tribunal has moved its hearings from Benin City, the capital of Edo State, to Abuja.
According to ZINGTIE, during the court sessions on Friday, January 24, 2025, Tribunal secretary Muazu Bagudu revealed this.
The relocation went into effect on Monday, January 27, 2025, according to a statement signed by the tribunal secretary.
The letter read thus: “I am directed to notify all parties that the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State has been relocated to Abuja at National Judicial Institute (NJI), Airport road, Abuja effective from Monday, January 27, 2025.
“For further inquiry, contact the secretary”.
However, ZINGTIE learnt that the tribunal’s move to Abuja was ordered by the President of the Court of Appeal.
According to a court-affiliated source who requested anonymity, the event was caused by insecurity at the tribunal’s location on Sapele Road in Benin City.
Following the testimony of Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the data forensic expert hired by the petitioners in the case, and the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, before the court, it was learnt that Mauzu Bagudu, the tribunal’s secretary, had announced the move.
