Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the September 2024 gubernatorial election.
His Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja.
According to ZINGTIE, the Supreme Court affirmed on Thursday that Sen. Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had won the state’s gubernatorial election.
In a unanimous ruling, a five-member panel of the highest court determined that the appellants, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its election candidate, Asue Ighodalo, had not shown adequate and reliable evidence to support their claims.
According to the minister, the ruling represents a final affirmation of the governor’s freely granted mandate by the Edo people.
He urged the governor to stay committed and see the win as an additional exhortation to serve the Edo people without reservation.
“This victory is for the people of Edo, who elected Okpebholo. It is a call for greater commitment to the service of the people.
“I congratulate the governor and urge him to keep doing his best for the upliftment of his people,” he said.
The former governor of Rivers State also urged Asue Ighodalo, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to work with Okpebholo to advance the state.
