In connection with the alleged sexual assault of the governor’s aide’s 15-year-old daughter, the Edo State Police Command has detained the driver of Monday Okpebholo, the governor’s special adviser.
According to ZINGTIE, Moses Yamu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, told reporters in Benin City on Thursday that the suspect, Mohammed Ihuenuma, 50, had been arrested.
Yamu said the investigation is underway and that the suspect would be charged to court after the probe.
He urged the public to always notify the police of rape, defilement, and indecent assault so that prompt action can be taken.
He went on to say that Monday Agbonika, the state commissioner of police, has zero tolerance for cases involving gender-based violence, GBV.
ZINGTIE learned that the suspect was apprehended on a tip-off from the father of the victim.
It was said that the suspect constantly searched for an opportunity to fiddle with the teenager, who lives with her parents, whenever he arrived to the residence on an errand.
According to a source, the driver has made inappropriate physical contact with the girl on several occasions in an attempt to seduce her.
It was also discovered that following a number of events, the girl told her mother about the situation, who in turn told her father.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody when the father informed the police about the situation.
