Mr. Ahmed Musa Momoh, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the State Flood Erosion and Watershed Management Agency, FEWMA, has been suspended by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo due to the turbaning ceremony and the appointment of Chiefs and Village Heads by the Aidenogie of South-Ibie Kingdom.
The South-Ibie Kingdom, located in the State’s Etsako West Local Government Area, is home to the suspended governor’s assistant.
According to a statement released to reporters in Benin City on Saturday by Fred Itua, the State Governor’s chief press secretary, the FEWMA leader was suspended by the governor due to suspected insubordination.
According to Itua, the suspension is effective immediately.
According to him, the suspended appointee has been directed by the governor to turn over any government assets under his control to the most senior public servant in the Agency.
He went on to say that, pending additional instructions from the governor, he has been directed to proceed on an immediate leave of absence.
“The Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the suspension of the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of Edo State Flood, Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (FEWMA), Mr. Ahmed Musa Momoh, effective immediately.
“Mr. Momoh has been instructed by His Excellency to hand over all Government properties in his possession to the most senior public servant in the Agency and proceed on immediate leave of absence, pending further directives from His Excellency, Governor Okpebholo,” he said.
Itua further stated that on Friday, January 24, 2025, the State Ministry of Local Government, Community, and Chieftaincy Affairs declared that the scheduled turbaning ceremony and the appointment of South-Ibie Kingdom’s chiefs and village heads would not take place.
He said that the move was made in response to warnings that security issues surrounding the event, which was originally planned for Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Iyakpi, South-Ibie, would worsen.
However, he said that Ahmed Musa Momoh, the suspended Executive Director of FEWMA, disregarded the State Government’s directive and took acts that may have destroyed the peace of the community.
According to him, “The suspended installation of new Chiefs and Clan Heads had been scheduled to be carried out by Umoru Inusa Umoru, the purported Aidenogie of South-Ibie.
“In light of the security threats at the disposal of the Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, I have been instructed to inform you that the proposed turbaning ceremony, as well as the appointment of Chiefs and Village Heads by Umoru Inusa Umoru, be put on hold forthwith.
“Any other acts, omissions or commissions planned by Umoru in his capacity as the purported Aidenogie of South-Ibie must be halted immediately, pending provisional clearance from the appropriate authorities.
“However, the suspended Executive Director of FEWMA, Ahmed Musa Momoh, flouted the order by the State Government and carried out actions capable of derailing the relative peace in the community,” he added.
