Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have taken into custody Moses Thomas Sule, a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, along with 14 ex-legislators, over allegations of money laundering and irregularities in procurement procedures.

The arrests were made on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, by personnel from the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Office, following multiple complaints submitted by concerned citizens from Plateau State.

The former lawmakers arrested include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.

According to information from the EFCC, initial findings indicated that the lawmakers—who held office for just six months—were each allocated high-end vehicles valued at approximately N2.5 billion in total by the state government for official purposes. However, when their tenure ended, they allegedly held onto the vehicles, ignoring repeated requests by the government for their return.

As a result, the Plateau State government was reportedly compelled to acquire new vehicles for the current legislators, at an additional cost of around N2 billion.

The anti-corruption agency noted that formal charges would be filed against the suspects once the investigation has been concluded.
