In connection with an alleged N27 billion fraud, Darius Ishaku, a former governor of Taraba State, has been placed under arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reports, Ishaku was picked up early on Friday morning from his home in Abuja.
As of the time this news was filed, the former governor was reportedly still under the anti-graft agency’s custody.
Ishaku has been charged with at least 15 counts, according to Daily Trust, and he will be arraigned in court as soon as the evidence against him is gathered.
“Yes, he’s in our custody right now. We have been investigating him covertly since he left as the State governor. There is a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated,” the source said.
When contacted by the newspaper, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale acknowledged the situation but declined to say further.
Ishaku’s apprehension follows the ongoing dispute between the commission and the former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, who was alleged to have stolen N80.2bn.
