The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyode, has disclosed that only 60 percent of stolen funds can be recovered once they have been taken.
Olukoyode made the disclosure on Friday during the inauguration of the EFCC Zonal Office in Awka, Anambra State.
The anti-corruption chief said the most effective way to tackle corruption in Nigeria is to prevent corruption and financial fraud from occurring in the first place.
He urged Nigerians to promptly report suspected cases of corruption to the Commission.
“I have discovered that when money has been stolen, the best you can recover is 60 percent,” he said.
Olukoyode added that the EFCC’s presence in Anambra was aimed at contributing to the growth of the state’s economy.
