The Enugu State Police Command has refuted claims that herdsmen have invaded and taken over homes and schools in Eha-Amufu, labeling these reports as “unfounded, deceptive, and misleading.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, emphasized that no community in Eha-Amufu, nor any other part of Enugu State, is currently under attack.
He clarified that the affected agricultural settlements are makeshift structures used by farmers, not permanent homes.
“While conflicts between farmers and herders occurred in 2021 and 2022, peace has since been restored through coordinated security efforts,” Ndukwe explained.
He also pointed out the steps taken by the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, to improve security in the region.
These initiatives include the deployment of 150 military personnel, the creation of security barracks, and the near-completion of the 21.7km Agape-Agu Mgbuji-Ogbete access road that leads to the farming settlements.
The Police Command further accused the media outlet behind the report of using irrelevant and outdated images to mislead the public.
“For example, photos of burned houses posted by Amnesty International from an attack in a neighboring state on February 4, 2025, were falsely represented as recent events in Eha-Amufu,” Ndukwe pointed out.
