According to Section 14(2)b of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Inter Party Advisory Council, or IPAC, has called on governments at all levels to distribute the benefits of democracy to citizens in order to alleviate their suffering.
The month-long Ramadan fast comes to a conclusion with the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, and PAC congratulated Muslims nationwide on their successful completion of the fast.
In their pursuit of a better society, the Council urged people to embody the qualities of unity, piety, love, tolerance, and charity.
“[We] urge governments at all levels to provide fruits of democracy to citizens to assuage their sufferings in accordance with Section 14(2)b of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended,” Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, National Chairman, IPAC, said in a statement on Sunday.
The Constitution “Provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
“Citizens desire and deserve a fair deal from their government. There is no substitute for good governance that will foster sustainable democracy and development.
“It is time for patriotism, all hands should be on deck in our collective resolve, commitment and determination to build a greater nation future generations will be proud of.”
The Commission, meantime, vehemently denounced the horrific murder of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State, who were purportedly on their way to Kano from Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, to celebrate Sallah with their families.
“It is unjust and wicked,” the Council added.
It urged security agents “to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face justice. Every life matters and should be protected as we assiduously work for a decent democratic nation.”
