The re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office has been reaffirmed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ekiti State leaders, and stakeholders.
The need to continue the positive work of Governor Oyebanji in Ekiti and President Tinubu at the national level was emphasized by the leaders and stakeholders who gathered on Friday at the late General Adeyinka Adebayo’s country residence in Iyin-Ekiti.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, his deputy Monisade Afuye, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Adeoye Aribasoye, two former state governors, Chief Niyi Adebayo and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as well as other members of the National Assembly, State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and other party stakeholders attended the meeting.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele made the motion to reaffirm President Tinubu’s candidacy, and Olusola Fatoba, a member of the House of Representatives who represents Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1, seconded it.
The motion to confirm Governor Oyebanji’s endorsement was also made by State House of Assembly Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye, and it was seconded by Chief Whip Bose Olowookere, who represents the Efon constituency. A loud voice vote was used to ratify both motions.
Former Governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi urged party members not to be complacent in the run-up to the governorship election next year in their separate remarks during the meeting, which emphasized a shared commitment and solidarity to further solidify the APC’s strength in the state. They emphasized that everyone must work together to ensure resounding victories in the state’s next elections.
After praising the State’s APC members for their overwhelming support of Governor Oyebanji, Dr. Fayemi urged them to make sure he won both the party primary and the general election.
He assured the eager group of leaders there that he was still a legitimate member of the APC and that he was fully committed to the party’s advancement. He went on to say that he will use all effort to guarantee Governor Oyebanji’s and the party’s success in the state.
According to the former governor, Oyebanji has performed admirably in the state, and the party does not foresee any issues in the next primary election. However, he urged all parties involved to rally support at the grassroots level so that he might win the primary election.
He expressed optimism that Governor Oyebanji will break the curse of one-term governors and that his administration would be the first to move from the same party line. He urged the governor and the state’s party hierarchy to make sure that the culture of continuity already underway is not derailment.
The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, spoke on behalf of the National Assembly’s members, assuring Governor Oyebanji of their support and promising that they will all successfully mobilize to restore him to his position as governor for a second term.
Governor Oyebanji thanked the stakeholders and other party members and reaffirmed his dedication to fostering unity among all parties, saying that he will keep fostering positive relationships that will constantly make the party a bride for all via inclusivity and aggressive developmental strides of his administration.
The governor expressed hope that the state’s jinx of one-term tenure would be broken in order to bring about more significant development in the state, noting that the October 17 primary election will serve as the basis for the 2026 governorship and 2027 presidential elections.
He urged all party members to view themselves as a single, large family and urged them not to be chastised or harassed because of the candidates they are backing.
“ We are one big family and we should see ourselves as one. Let everyone pursue his or her aspirations without any form of molestation. We will all work together for victory in the general election.“ the Governor said.
Olusola Elesin, the state’s APC chairman, revealed in his remarks that the purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the party’s preparations for the upcoming primary election and to fortify the party’s unity for subsequent elections.
He praised Governor Oyebanji and other caucus leaders for their support of the party’s secretariat project, adding that the governor’s noteworthy accomplishment is sufficient to improve the party’s performance in the governorship election. He also said that the forum is an organ of the party that makes decisions on important issues that affect the party.
