Elon Musk, the owner of the social media site X, has been accused by French President Emmanuel Macron of meddling in European politics, including the election in Germany.

In a speech to French diplomats on Monday, the French president revealed this.

According to Macron, it was unthinkable a few years ago that X, one of the biggest social media platforms in the world, would endorse what he called “a new international reactionary movement” and meddle in elections, even in Germany.

“Ten years ago, who could have imagined it if we had been told that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new international reactionary movement and intervene directly in elections, including in Germany?”

In the speech, Macron added that Donald Trump, the US president-elect, “knows he has a strong ally in France.”.

This follows Mr. Musk’s endorsement of the hard-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in an opinion piece for the daily Welt am Sonntag and on his social media platform X.

The Tesla billionaire’s piece claimed, “The portrayal of the AfD as rightwing extremist is clearly false, considering that Alice Weidel, the party’s leader, has a same-sex partner from Sri Lanka! Does that sound like Hitler to you? Please!”

Later, the newspaper’s opinion editor claimed that the article, which was published both online and in print, caused her to resign.

Just six days ago, the German government accused Musk of attempting to meddle in its elections.

ZINGTIE reported that in the build-up to the US presidential election in November last year, Musk was among the US billionaires who embraced Trump.
